How to Find Holme Pit and associated River stretches

Holmepit

By Car:
A453 to Clifton, turn off at Clifton Village and follow road to end. Park in Holgate Car Park and proceed on foot by turning right out of the car park and walking down Holgate hill. At the bottom turn left along the Trent Valley Way. Holme Pit will be on your right.

Alternatively access can be gained via Fox Covert Lane off the old A453. At Mill Hill Roundabout take the exit for Barton and Thrumpton. The turning to Fox Covert Lane is approximately 100m on the right hand side. Follow this lane down, access to Holme Pit is on your right hand side. The pond is accessed through a clearly labelled gate across a field which is only accessible by 4×4’s during periods of wet weather. Fox Covert is a gated bridleway. To obtain a gate key please contact John Lee on 07976 794880 or Mick Bell on 07891 460723.

The Pads

Continue down Fox Covert Lane passed the gate into Holme Pit, turn left in front of the yellow gate and continue to the end. The Pads start from the woods on your left.

The Willows

Continue down Fox Covert Lane passed the gate into Holme Pit, go through the yellow gate (which keys can be purchased for), follow the track towards the weir, turn left towards the hydro power station.

The Weir (Clifton side)

Directions as above. You will see the weir on route to The Willows.

Barton Ferry Fields

Turn off the  old A453 into Barton (turning closest to Clifton), continue down into the village, and straight on into Brown Lane. Through the gate at the end (combination lock) and follow track to the end.

A condition of your membership is that all gates are kept locked at all times – do not let non key holders through the gate.
